Why This Site Exists
Finding good STEM and STEAM programs for kids in Michigan shouldn't require hours of searching, comparing scattered websites, and guessing which programs are actually worth the time and money.
Most of the information available to Michigan parents is either too broad (national directories with no local depth), too narrow (covering only one city or region), or blurred by advertising.
Michigan STEAM Kids was created to fill that gap: a single, statewide resource that covers programs across Grand Rapids, Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and beyond — with honest, parent-focused editorial content that helps families make confident choices.
Who Is Behind Michigan STEAM Kids?
Michigan STEAM Kids was founded by Jordan Straight, a Michigan-native science professional with a background that spans research, education, and quality assurance.
Jordan spent 10 years conducting molecular neuroscience research, including graduate-level work in the field. During that same period, he spent a decade tutoring college students in science subjects, primarily chemistry — developing a deep understanding of how people learn scientific concepts and what makes educational programs effective.
His career also includes two years as a clinical research coordinator in oncology and three years as a quality assurance specialist for a large Clinical Research Organization in Michigan. That quality-focused mindset — verifying claims, checking sources, and maintaining rigorous standards — directly shapes how Michigan STEAM Kids evaluates and presents programs.
Our Editorial Approach
Every program listing on Michigan STEAM Kids is individually researched and written. We do not copy marketing language from provider websites.
