Program Overview

Grossology gives kids the chance to dive into science topics that are often overlooked — but critically important to understanding how nature works. During this one-day camp, participants investigate how animals defend themselves, including how turkey vultures use unique survival strategies, and explore the role of molds and yeasts in decomposition and the environment.

Campers also study scat (the scientific term for animal droppings) and other remnants left behind in ecosystems, learning how scientists use these clues to understand food chains and animal behavior. Through guided experiments and observation, children discover how microbes break down materials and recycle nutrients back into the environment.

By presenting these topics in a fun, curiosity-driven way, Grossology helps kids see science as exciting, approachable, and deeply connected to the natural world.
